A KEEN footballer will be having a kick-about with celebrities when he takes part in charity event The Big Match.

Adam Mason, 37, who plays football regularly on the Sherborne St John football pitch, will play at Reading FC home ground Madejski stadium during the charity match on May 31, alongside celebrities, ex-pros and other members of the public.

Adam, who works for B&Q, secured his place on the team by pledging to raise at least £1,000 for the two charities The Big Match is being held in aid of – The Brain Tumour Charity and Action for Children.

He has already surpassed that target, but will continue fundraising for the charities and is holding a pre-match game at Chute Recreation Ground, in Sherborne St John.

The match will be held on Sunday, April 13, with the kick-off at 2.30pm. There will also be food, drink and entertainment until 9pm.

Adam, who lives in Winklebury, Basingstoke, said: “It should be a great community event for people of all ages.

“It’s also a great way to promote The Big Match – a lot of Reading fans are from Basingstoke and a lot of the crowd there on the day will be from the local area.”

Tickets for the pre-match cost £5 for adults and a donation to charity for children.
