BASINGSTOKE and Deane Borough Council is offering young people across Basingstoke the opportunity to take part in a fun-filled programme of free activities during the summer holidays.

The Summer Streetz project, which is in its sixth year, is funded by the borough council along with support from partners from the public, private and community sectors, and it gives people aged between 11 and 17 the chance to participate in activities, including music workshops, sports sessions, graffiti art and other craft workshops.

Building on the success of previous years, and thanks to more community groups getting involved, the summer holiday sessions will run at community venues across the borough including Brighton Hill, Buckskin, Chineham, Eastrop, Hatch Warren, Kingsclere, Oakridge, Popley, Rooksdown, South Ham and Winklebury.

This year’s programme has been made possible due to continued sponsorship from Chineham-based biopharmaceutical company Shire, and financial support from Sovereign and Affinity Sutton housing associations, along with partnership funding from the Safer Basingstoke and Deane partnership and Anvil Arts.

Councillor Cathy Osselton, borough Cabinet member for partnerships, said: “The Streetz sessions have become established and valued within communities over the last few years, so it’s great that once again the young people in the borough will have the opportunity to get involved in activities over the summer with this year’s programme.

“More communities are now working with their own young people, supported by our community development team, in the planning and running of their local activities sessions.”

All 11 programmes of Summer Streetz activities are available on the council’s website at basingstoke.gov.uk/go/streetz.
