DOGS of all shapes and sizes were paraded around a Basingstoke park to help raise money for a national dog charity.

Hundreds of people flocked to War Memorial Park to take part in a dog show organised by members of Basingstoke and District Dog Training Club.

Categories included most handsome dog, waggiest tail, best crossbreed and best veteran.

Judges selected their favourite entries before awarding trophies to the first place dogs in each category, and rosettes to the five runners-up for each award.

In addition to the dog show, a selection of stalls selling items such as pet toys, food and grooming products gave owners the chance to treat their pooches to some welcome retail therapy, whilst owners scooped prizes such as afternoon tea for two at the Four Seasons Hotel, in Dogmersfield, and £150 worth of EVE LOM cosmetics.

Crowds were also entertained with a performance of tricks from Lucy Heath and her border collie, Indie, the 2012 winners of ITV2 programme That Dog Can Dance.

Show secretary Kath Gorick said: “We had an absolutely beautiful day. I intend to do it again and I have got lots of ideas for next year.

“We have had such good feedback and so many people have phoned and emailed me and said how much they enjoyed it.”
