IT WAS party time at an Overton school after an education watchdog rated it as “outstanding”.

Staff, children and parents from Overton Church of England Primary School, in Court Drove, came together for a party after Ofsted gave the school a glowing report.

Staff from the education watchdog visited the school on July 15 and 16, grading all areas – achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management – as “outstanding”.

The Ofsted report said: “The headteacher has provided inspired, determined and consistent leadership over a sustained period.

“She has been well supported by an enthusiastic and capable team of leaders and other staff, and a committed board of governors.

“There is no sense of complacency and everyone displays genuine ambition to continue to take the school forward.”

It continued: “The behaviour of pupils is outstanding, both in lessons and throughout the school day. Their attitudes to learning are excellent.”

Headteacher Fiona Wyeth told The Gazette: “We are absolutely delighted. We were outstanding before, but the framework for inspection has changed and the goalposts continually move so to be rated as outstanding for the second time under the new framework was a huge delight because it is a reflection of the hard work we have been doing.

“We wanted to celebrate with the parents and children and to give the staff and governors an opportunity to celebrate.

“It is a team achievement and it involved parents, children, staff and governors. It is a really exciting place to work, and I feel privileged to work here.”
