THE Basingstoke Half-Marathon has certainly helped to put the town on the map – and now it has been shortlisted for a top event industry award.

Event organiser Destination Basingstoke appear on the Evcom’s Eventia Awards shortlist alongside sports and events giants such as The Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Olympia London, Emirates Stadium, Silverstone International and the Excel Centre.

Destination Basingstoke submitted its entry in the ‘sporting events’ category, and managing director Felicity Edwards and her team are delighted to have made the final shortlist.

Felicity, who is race director of the half-marathon, said: “We are very proud that our success and hard work is being recognised by these industry experts, and are especially pleased that our half-marathon, along with Basingstoke, will be proudly showcased at the Mayfair awards dinner at the end of November.

“I have no doubt that the tremendous support we have had from our sponsors, and the residents and sporting community of Basing-stoke, has helped to distinguish us from the competition.”

The Basingstoke Half-Marathon, which was supported by local law firm Phillips Solicitors as its headline sponsor this year, took place for the fourth time in October, when 1,443 people ran the 13.1-mile route.

Entries for the 2015 race are already coming in, and with satisfaction ratings at an all-time high of 95 per cent, it looks like it will be another good year.
