WOMEN across Basingstoke are being urged to grab their last chance to 'kick cancer where it hurts' by signing up for this year’s Race for Life.

Over 1,600 women of all shapes, sizes and ages have already signed up for the event which will take place at Down Grange Sports Complex, in Pack Lane, from 7pm on Wednesday, June 17.

And more mums, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, nieces and friends are being encouraged to take part in the event with entry closing on Monday, June 15.

Fiona Miller, south east event manager for Race for Life, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life in Basingstoke. But, we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible.”

At last year’s event, 2,614 women took part in the 5k or 10k race and managed to pull in an incredible £138,109 for Cancer Research UK and this year the charity hopes to hit a fundraising target of £140,000.

By taking part in the Race for Life event, people in the area are helping Cancer Research UK's doctors, nurses and scientists make advances in research which will help more men, women and children survive.

Fiona Miller added: “Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast. You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like because these events are all about the feel-good factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.”
