THIS Saturday, one of our St Joseph’s parishioners, Phil Carroll, is going to be ordained a Catholic priest in the Military Cathedral in Aldershot. This is an exciting day for our parish, diocese and worldwide church.
Phil has been training formally for about seven years in preparation for the celebration and the priestly life that follows. One of the most moving parts of the service is when Phil will lie face down on the floor of the cathedral as an act of complete submission of his will and his life into the hands of God.
Now, if we believe God is some sort of super-powerful version of the Wizard of Oz, then this would be a ridiculous thing to do, making ourselves slaves to another.
Christians, however, believe that God is Love. To trust in God is to trust completely and totally and utterly in love. It is this, we believe, which brings true freedom.
None of us has complete control of our lives. To whom or what would you be willing to entrust your life completely in order to be free?
