POLICE officers in Basingstoke have launched an investigation following a robbery in the early hours of this morning.

The incident took place on a footpath between Sutton Road and Scotney Road, in Oakridge, at around 12.30am, this morning.

A 26-year-old man was walking on his own using his phone when he was approached by two unknown men walking in the opposite direction. As the two men passed him, one of them punched him in the back of the head.

The victim then fell to the ground and sustained a cut to his chin, dropping his phone as he fell. The two men then took the phone and ran off in the direction of Queen Marys Avenue.

The two men are described as white and aged between 20 and 30-years-old. One of the men wore square or rectangular glasses and was around 5ft 10ins tall.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Tracy West, said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in this area at the time.

"Did you see or hear anything that may assist in identifying these men? Have you or anyone you know recently been offered a black Motorola G mobile phone? Please call 101, quoting 44150341463.”
