A TADLEY couple are celebrating happy memories after 60 years of marriage.

Jack Yarham and Sophia, from Gravelly Close, marked their diamond wedding anniversary with a family get-together.

In fact it was a double celebration as it was also Sophia’s 85th birthday.

The happy couple first met at a dance held at the Memorial Hall, in Tadley, as Sophia recalls: “He was a good looking man. People used to say ‘I can see why you picked him’ – they were always saying that.”

Jack, 86, who was new to the area and worked for building firm John Lang, proved to be a good dancer.

The couple were married at Basingstoke Register Office which was witnessed by close family members, except for Sophia’s mother, who was kept busy preparing food for the wedding reception.

The couple have lived in Gravelly Close for the last 56 years and it is where they brought up their family of five children.

“We’ve been very happy here,” said Jack, who is very proud of their four grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

He added: “Sophia has been a wonderful wife.”

“And he’s been a good husband – I couldn’t have found a better one,” added Sophia.
