AN OVERTON nursery is one of the best in the country after being graded as “outstanding” by Ofsted.

Little Steps Montessori Nursery School, based in the Ken Hogan Pavillion, at Berrydown Sports Ground, in London Road, was visited by the education watchdog last month.

In a report published on October 31 it said: “The manager provides strong leadership to a team of highly experienced and capable staff. Children thrive in their care. All staff have an excellent understanding of how children learn and of their role in developing children’s interests and self-confidence.”

It added: “Teaching is exceptional. Children are highly motivated to learn and master new skills through purposeful play and experimentation. Staff record children’s progress diligently.”

The nursery, which has 29 children on its roll, relocated to its current setting in 2013 and follows the Montessori philosophy approach.

Helen Robinshaw, the Ofsted inspector who visited Little Steps, said in her report: “Children flourish. They quickly gain confidence in exploring the exciting play areas, fascinating toys and materials. Caring staff are always attentive to children’s needs and interests. Staff work exceptionally well with parents to support children’s emotional wellbeing."
