SLEET and snow could fall in Basingstoke for the first time this winter.

The Met Office forecasts sleet showers from 1am tonight which will continue into the morning.

Temperatures are expected to plummet to 4C on Saturday, which the Met Office said will feel like -4C.

A rain and snow band is moving south across central and eastern areas, and snow is expected to fall in the south of the country over the weekend.

Temperatures are due to remain cold into Sunday, when there could be wintry showers with frost and ice overnight.

Emma Sharples, Met Office meteorologist, said: “There could be sleet and snow showers but we don’t think there will be a massive snowfall.

“Temperatures will warm up again to about 10C from Monday.”
