PROPERTY and investment companies are being invited to stake a claim on the proposed Manydown development.

As joint land owners, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council are inviting companies to discuss their interest in the site and how they can help deliver the forward-thinking vision for the development.

The two councils are currently working on proposals for the overall layout of Manydown, which will bring more than 3,000 new homes to the area, as well as schools, community facilities and a country park.

A public consultation of the proposed master plan, agreed by both councils, will start in September with residents being able to further give their views in shaping this major development.

Cabinet member for the Manydown development at the borough council Cllr John Izett said this development is vital to the developing the future of Basingstoke.

He said: “We have a huge responsibility to make sure it is done well, with the right infrastructure to make Manydown something to be proud of for generations to come.

“We’re looking for an experienced partner with a track record in creating great places coupled with a commitment to help realise our plans to make Manydown a vibrant, successful community and an amazing place.”

Currently plans are in an early stage before the two land owners formally identify the right private sector partner to make the project.

Their aim is to have the final contracts signed in September next year, with an outline planning application due to be submitted by the end of the year.

Leader of HCC Cllr Roy Perry said: “A good quality development which respects the quality of the environment and has adequate infrastructure is of considerable importance to the county council, especially schools and health facilities, as well as highways. We see this as a key site, and a major opportunity that will reflect the great character of Hampshire.”
