BABIES in Basingstoke have been summoning their super powers in a bid to raise money for charity.

Children who attended the Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense classes held in Sherborne St John took part in a superhero sensathon raising money for children’s charity Tommy’s.

The sessions saw babies from 0-10 months dress as superheroes as they set out on a heroic mission to save babies’ lives.

Capes, masks, full body suits and spandex all made an appearance on the tots.

The multi-award winning programme, which aims to help develop children’s imaginations through sensory learning aims to raise more than £375,000 from events held across the country.

Michelle Grzbiela, franchisee of Basingstoke Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense said the event was a great chance for the children to tap into their inner superhero. She said: “This superhero sensathon is an enormously fun event that encourages parents and pre-schoolers to tap into their inner Batman and raise funds for the research work Tommy’s pioneers into the causes and prevention of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature births.”

Tommy’s funds research into pregnancy problems and provides information to empower parents to have a healthy pregnancy.

The charity wants to reduce the fact that one in four women lose a baby during pregnancy and birth, and the money raised from the superhero sensathon will make a big difference to aiding their research.

Chief executive of Tommy’s, Jane Brewin said the sensathon is a great way for mums and dads to get their little ones involved in helping a good cause.

She said: “Tommy’s relies on the generosity and hard work of its supporters to continue its pioneering research to prevent pregnancy complications.

“We hope everyone taking part has a super time.”
