ODIHAM hockey star Alex Danson and Great Britain, won Olympic gold after a dramatic penalty shoot-out with the Netherlands.
It was GB’s 24th gold of the Rio games and saw the hockey team complete the tournament with a perfect record with eight straight wins.
The Brits won the shoot-out as Helen Richardson-Walsh and Hollie Webb scored, while Maddie Hinch produced four great saves.
In a titanic battle, Hinch saved an early penalty flick and then GB took the lead in the first quarter from Lily Owsley.
The reigning world and Olympic champions then dominated the second quarter as Kitty van Male and Maartje Paumen both scored.
A minute later, the Brits levelled things from Christa Cullen to make it 2-2 at half-time.
The Dutch then took the lead again as van Male scored again, but the Brits were not to be denied, as from a penalty corner, GB’s leading scorer in Rio, Danson helped the ball on to Nicola White for the equaliser.
They then won the penalty shoot-out for a superb victory, which has to be one of the highlights of the Olympics.
