A golf club in Basingstoke is celebrating a landmark year with three members marking 60 years of membership.

Basingstoke Golf Club presented numerous members with commemorative glass for the occasion and put on a course and dinner event which was enjoyed by more than 30 people.

The golf club had three members celebrating 60 years of membership with the club. Vi Dolton, Norma Challens and Derrick Mayes had all initially joined the golf club as full members in 1962 and 1963.

Basingstoke Golf Club was originally based near Beggarwood, but after works to build over 1,000 homes were approved, the club moved to Dummer Golf Club which was in turn remodelled as Basingstoke Golf Club.

The club is currently under redevelopment works which are due to be completed by 2024/25.

Derrek Nayes has been a member of Basingstoke Golf Club since 1963.

He said: "This golf club has been a major part of my life. I've seen a lot of change to the golf club in that time, not just recently but the growth of the course in Kempshott originally.

"I've made some great friends along the way and some very fond memories as well, and I still manage to get around with my friends Geoff and Brian, which is terrific."

Norma Challens, who was lady captain at the golf club in 1981, said: "This is a sport I have always enjoyed and I feel very honoured to be recognised after so long.

"I initially gave up ballroom dancing for golf, but I have no regrets. I've made some lifelong friends along the way and very much enjoyed my time here at the club."

Basingstoke Golf Club also recently celebrated a long service award for a member of staff. Malcolm Conduct celebrated 50 years at Basingstoke Golf Club this year.

A spokesperson for the club said: "There is no knowing how many bunkers he's raked and holes he's changed over so many years, but his hard work and dedication is proven year on year. The club would like to congratulate Malcolm and thank the members who came along to the presentation for this remarkable milestone."
