HOLDERS Basingstoke and North Hants and Old Basing are both through to the semi-finals of the Guy Jewell Cup, writes Graham Merry.

Basingstoke started their defence with a crushing 88-run over Odiham and Greywell.

Brad Neal hit the first century of this summer’s competition with an unbeaten 101, while Dubs Wood finished unbeaten on 79 in the Bountymen’s total of 217-3. Callum Doran 2-36 took both the Basingstoke wickets.

In reply, Odiham were bowled out for 129 as Matt Donaldson 3-14 and Ali Brown 3-23 did most of the damage.

Old Basing upset the form book as the Hampshire League side beat Southern League outfit Hartley Wintney by five runs.

Old Basing batted first and scored 151-9 from their 20 overs as Dan Belcher led the way with 57 being well supported by Tom Jackson 27.

Hugo Hammond returned an excellent 5-21 and James Darnell 2-35 for Hartley.

Hammond also led the way with the bat top scoring with 51 and Lachlan Roughly chipped in with 42, but Hartley came up short as they finished on 146-8.

Nick Cooper 3-18 and Cam Hall 3-23 were the pick of the Old Basing bowlers.

In the Cyril Thompson Trophy, Chawton were five wicket winners against Ramsdell.

The Rams scored 113-6 as Jack Parsons (24) and Dave Simpson (24 not out) top scored. Cameron Hamer 2-13 and Max Williams 2-25 were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Chawton made 117-5 as Mason Taylor with an unbeaten 32 led the way supported by Sam Charlton 23. Dave Simpson with 2-21 was the chief wicket taker.

Next week’s games will see Stratfield Turgis take on Rotherwick ITW in the Cyril Thompson Trophy on Monday June 19 and on the following evening in the Guy Jewell Cup Rotherfield Park face East Woodhay.
