Hook & Newnham Basics are tottering uneasily on the edge of the Southern Premier Division 1 relegation zone after a 23-run defeat by second-placed Calmore Sports at the KGV, writes Mikes Vimpany.

With two matches remaining at Rowledhe and then Andover, Hook are only 21 points ahead of Hambledon, who have won their last two matches.

They rallied from 96-5 to finish with 200-9 after Calmore had posted 223-7, Harry Robson scoring 36 and Will Gardner 39 not out.

Hook seconds lost their crucial Division 2 relegation match at Sparsholt by 28 runs, closing with 196 after the Winchester club had made 224.

Teens Oli Webster (57) and Manny Lumsden (44) top-scored for Hook.
