BASINGSTOKE Fire Station welcomed members of the community to its open day, with plenty for everyone to enjoy.

Members of the fire, ambulance and police services were in attendance, amongst a number of other organisations to welcome residents into the station for an informative, fun-filled day for all the family.

Members of the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were on hand to give demonstrations, show families around the station and let youngsters sit in the fire engines.

Attendees were also able to see inside ambulances, learn CPR, use a fire hose and watch a demonstration by a number of firefighters as they cut the roof off a car.

Also on display were stands for the British Red Cross, the Neighbourhood Watch and many more.

The event coincided with the end of a charity climb held by firefighters from White Watch Basingstoke, who climbed the drill tower at the Basingstoke station for 24 hours nonstop to the equivalent height of Mount Everest, which is 8,850 metres.

The group completed the climb wearing full firefighting clothing including boots, helmets and breathing apparatus, weighing more than 30kg.

The event has raised over £2,500 so far, beating their target of £2,000. To donate visit Fundraiser - Stair Climb to Everest (peoplesfundraising.com).
