Silchester Village battled through a nervy encounter with Bournemouth Manor to book their place in the Hampshire Saturday Vase semi-finals with a dramatic late winner, writes Tony Spencer.

Despite a heavy pitch and the hosts' valiant efforts to make the game playable, it was Silchester who created the early chances.

However, profligacy in front of goal from Connor Stratton and Danny Vickers kept the scores level at the break.

Bournemouth Manor threatened briefly with a cleared shot off the line, but it was the 61st minute that saw the game explode into life.

A controversial penalty awarded to the hosts was duly converted, putting Silchester on the back foot.

Manager Callum Bush's tactical changes paid off quickly, with Stratton equalising to send the tie into a tense finale.

Just as penalties loomed, Silchester delivered a sucker punch.

With only a minute of normal time remaining, Trent Barrington unleashed a stunning strike that flew into the top right corner, securing a 2-1 victory and a fairytale semi-final berth for the Villagers.

Elsewhere, Basing United unfortunately faced a different fate. Their journey to Bournemouth Electric resulted in a disappointing 6-0 defeat.

Basingstoke Hammers navigated a penalty shootout (4-5) after a 3-3 draw with Hordle Sports in the Hampshire Sunday Trophy fourth round.

Eastrop Eagles' Division 2 clash with Sherborne St John went ahead on an all-weather pitch, but the Eagles were outshone 0-5, sending the visitors into second place.

Hook climbed to third in Division 3 on goal difference after Nathan Bonser and Jack McKee (2) secured a 3-0 victory over Weaty FC.
