UPDATE: According to SSEN power is now back on for the affected areas and residents.

PEOPLE in the Tadley area have been without power overnight after a tree fell on an overhead line. 

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) confirmed the unplanned outage on its website after receiving reports that power had been cut around the Tadley area on Tuesday, January 23 at around 5.20pm.

The power cut is affecting a large area of North Hampshire, from Tadley to Charter Alley, and all the way north to Stratfield Mortimer. Mortimer Common has not been affected.

The power outage is affecting more than 200 postcodes in the RG7 and RG26 areas. It is unknown how many customers are estimated to be affected.

Despite the outage being logged at 5.20pm on Tuesday, January 23, an engineer from SSEN is still not on-site or even en route, with no timescale on when the power will be restored.

SSEN said: "We're very sorry for the power cut and are aware of a fault on our main network affecting homes. This is affecting a large area and it's likely several streets in your area are affected by the same outage.

"Due to a busier than usual day, all of our engineers are currently working on other faults. We have made the local teams aware of your power cut and they are working hard to find resources to attend and get your power back on. 

"We have had reports of a tree falling on our overhead network. When this happens, the power will automatically turn off to keep everyone safe, repair the wire and get your power back on. These type of faults often require extensive work and specialist teams, such as tree cutters, which is why the restoration time seems so far away. If we can restore power sooner, we promise we will do so.
