Luke Murphy, who previously served as a Labour councillor for Lambeth appears to be shortlisted, in addition to current Lambeth Cllr Joe Dharampal-Hornby.

The process sees members of the Basingstoke Labour Party put their names forward to be voted as the party’s representative in the area during the next general election.

Candidates who are on the shortlist are invited to a hustings, where local members vote for their parliamentary candidate via a preferential voting system (Alternative Vote).

Rosalind Bach, Chair of Basingstoke Constituency Labour Party (CLP), previously said to the Gazette: “Basingstoke Labour Party is a great heart of the party whose strength lies within its members, all striving to find the best for people living in Basingstoke.

“For us, the general election cannot come soon enough, the people of Basingstoke deserve better than the Tories.”

Basingstoke Labour has been contacted for comment.
