A DRIVER has been arrested for drugs and driving offences after a police chase in Basingstoke.

A grey Volkswagen Golf was pursued by police after the driver failed to stop on Aldermaston Road at 5pm on Wednesday, April 10.

Officers followed the vehicle onto Ringway North, then Ringway West towards the Winchester Road roundabout, before driving down Ringway South towards the Hackwood Road roundabout.

The car then turned onto Hackwood Road before stopping on Applegarth Close, with a foot pursuit ensuing. Officers detained the man, and after searching the scene, seized a bag of suspected Class A drugs, two phones, and cash.

A 53-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously and failing to stop a vehicle when required. He remains in custody while police carry out their enquiries.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Officers continue to investigate this incident, but we would also like anyone else who saw what happened to come forward, particularly if they have dashcam footage.
