STAFF at Whitchurch Silk Mill are delighted that the attraction has been named as a finalist in the Rural Business of the Year award in Basingstoke’s Inspire Awards.

This award recognises outstanding businesses that have made their mark on or in the rural economy - both locally and further afield.

Whitchurch Silk Mill is situated on the banks of the River Test. Built in 1815, it is now a living museum, with a working waterwheel, still weaving beautiful silk in the original Georgian building. There is also a very popular Riverside Café on site, as well as the Mill Shop.

The mill contributes to the economy in many ways including providing 23 paid jobs, hosting large events that showcase artisans in the area and supporting local businesses through its café and shop.

The mill attracts 30,000 visitors to the site annually, many of who travel, stay, dine and visit other attractions locally.

The Inspire Business Awards 2024 finale will take place at Oakley Hall in July.

Businesses and individuals from Basingstoke and Deane will compete for the prizes in 12 categories. Businesses in the rural community have faced considerable challenges over the past few years, the mill included.
