BASINGSTOKE and District Sunday League Division One side Tron suffered a heart-breaking penalty shoot-out defeat to Clatford Arms Athletic in the final of the Andover Presidents Cup.

Jesse Todd was Tron's scorer but the game ended 1-1 and extra-time could not split the teams either, meaning that a penalty shoot-out was required.

Clatford were clinical, scoring all five of their penalties to claim a 5-3 victory and lift the cup - but Tron still have their eye on the league, which they could win if they are able to make the most of their games in hand.

Sporting Silchester need to win just one of their last three games to claim the Division One title after three victories in five days took their winning run to nine games.

First up was a 3-2 victory over Basingstoke Saints last Tuesday evening. Steven Aldridge, Barry Smith and Danny Costen netted for Silchester, with the Saints goals coming from Walter Ndoro and an Adam Butler penalty.

Then, last Thursday, they hosted Republic of Chineham, with a Steven Aldridge hat-trick giving them a 3-1 victory, while a 3-2 win over Dayer's Fine Foods last Sunday saw them move five points clear at the top. Costen, Kevin Hill and Austin Kelly got the leaders' goals.

CI FC drew 3-3 with Republic of Chineham on Sunday. CI took the lead through Colin Davis but they found themselves 3-1 down soon after half-time. Stuart Murfitt's solo effort got them back into the game, while the equaliser came when Ally Crump's cross forced an own-goal.

CI suffered a surprising 3-2 defeat at the hands of Basingstoke Sports and Social last Thursday. Ellis Hauman, Alex Izzo and an own-goal helped Sports and Social to victory, with Bobby Frost and Oliver Knox netting for CI.

Sports and Social beat Kaiser Wessex 2-0 last Tuesday, with Leighton Chivers and Izzo finding the net in either half.

On Sunday, Kaiser Wessex and Basingstoke Saints scored 10 goals between them but had to settle for a point apiece. Sam Barrett, Scott Harvey, James Tarrant, Dean Barrett and Andrew Gethin all scored for Kaiser, while Ryan Sawyer bagged a hat-trick for Saints, with Matt Cuthbertson and an Adam Butler penalty completing the scoring.
