READING returning to winning ways on Saturday, thanks to a 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough in the Championship .

Simon Cox scored the winner after just seven minutes as he latched onto a pass from Ryan Edwards, and lobbed the home goalie.

Middlesbrough had their chances to level before the break, from Adam Clayton’s volley and then Kike and Albert Adomah forced Adam Federici into saves.

Middlesbrough continued to press after the interval and they hit the post, after Royals defender Chris Gunter diverted Adam Reach's cross onto the woodwork.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins said: “It was a great goal from Simon Cox, which gave us something to hold on to.”

The win moved Reading up to 15th in the table as they go into the international break.

They are next in action on Saturday September 13 when they entertain Fulham.
