SAM Cato scored a hat-trick on his Bramley United debut as they beat Welly Old Boys 4-1 in the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division, writes Peter Raynbird.

Former Skewers striker Cato scored twice in the first 20 minutes and then Josh Harper added a third.

Welly now led by Graham Jenkins, had ex-Old Basing Andy Tottman and former Pure Spartan Russell Williams playing up front and they managed to pull a goal back through Shane Third with a 40-yard free-kick.

Cato was on top form and after hitting the bar, he completed his hat trick with five minutes left. Rising Sun DC and Tadley Calleva shared eight goals in their opening premier game.

Home side Tadley swept into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Ashley Saunders and Simon Penfold.

The visitors levelled from Ben Nicholls, the former Welly Old Boys top scorer, and then Lorne Howard scored a 40-yard free-kick. Kye Theodore put Tadley ahead by the break, but an own goal on the hour made it 3-3. Theodore scored again, but with five minutes left, another former Welly player Jamie Ballantine came up with the equaliser.
