HOOK and Newnham Basics under- 13s beat Hartley Wintney by nine runs to lift the North Hampshire League 15/15 Cup at May’s Bounty.
It was third time lucky for Hook this season, having lost to Hartley twice in the league earlier in the summer.
In the nine-a-side competition with 15 overs per side and eight balls per over, Hook won the toss and decided to bat.
Skipper Matty Taylor led from the front with an enterprising 29, which was followed by Charlie Lappin’s 30 not out (retired).
There was then a really good last wicket stand from Jamie Rosso and Jasper Alderton which added a crucial 16 runs, as Hook finishedon 147-7.
Hartley’s reply started with gusto as Matthew Rudd smashed 30 not out (retired). He was well supported by Angus Brown (22) and James Darnell (20).
Some tight bowling from spinners Luke Burgess (2-22) and Will Gardner kept Hook in the game.
With 16 needed off the last over, it was left to man-of-the-match Charlie Lappin (2-28), who restricted them to seven runs and finished by taking a wicket with his final ball.
