GLENN Murray’s last-minute goal earner Reading a point as they and visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers shared six goals in a thrilling Championship encounter at the Madejski Stadium yesterday afternoon.
There was little sign of the drama to follow during the first half of few chances, but Reading led at the break after defender Michael Hector headed home from Oliver Norwood’s cross on 19 minutes.
Wolves levelled early in the second half, James Henry scoring against his former club from Bakary Sako’s cross. Lee Evans then put the visitors ahead three minutes later, taking advantage of a poor clearance from Jordan Obita.
However, Jake Taylor drew Reading level almost straight from the kick-off, slotting home after being played in by Simon Cox.
Wolves regained the advantage with six minutes left, substitute Dave Edwards heading home, but Reading were not to be denied a point. With a minute remaining, Murray’s well-struck effort from the edge of the area took a deflection off Danny Batth on its way into the top corner of the net.
Royals manager Nigel Adkins was pleased with his side’s performance against a Wolves outfit who have made a strong start to the season.
“We have played against a good side and responded well to get back in the game having gone behind,” he said. “Credit to the players and it was a good game of football.”
The result leaves Reading 11th in the table ahead of a trip to Leeds United on Wednesday night.
