BASINGSTOKE Bison completed a four point weekend, with a 5-2 victory at Ice Sheffield against the Sheffield Steeldogs.

The home side were minus imports Jeff Legue and Andre Payette and found themselves behind after Aaron Connolly fired over the shoulder of Dalibor Sedlar at 5:53.

The lead was doubled seven minutes later from Ciaran Long and the score was still 2-0 at the first buzzer.

Three minutes into the second period, Callum Pattison was dismissed on a match penalty for roughing, after taking exception to a Connolly hit.

The Herd made the most of their five minute powerplay, as they scored three times, thanks to Connolly, Tomas Karpov and Doug Sheppard to lead 5-0 at 27:54.

The Steeldogs opened their account five minutes later, as Tom Squires scored backhanded past Dean Skinns and the same player score again two minutes later to make it 5-2.

The Bison then suffered the dismissal of their import defenceman Miroslav Vantroba after he picked up a match penalty for chipping after he went for a hip check on Andrew Hirst.

This was 29 seconds before the second buzzer and the Herd then killed off the rest of the five minute penalty at the start of the final session.

The Steeldogs were then give a two man advantage a few minutes later and the home side’s Ashley Calvert hit the post.

This was as close as any side came to scoring in the final 20 minutes, as the Bison held onto to take the victory and maintain second spot in the table behind Telford.

This weekend, the Bison are on the road at Milton Keynes and then Swindon.
