TWO contentious penalties in the final 10 minutes saw Hartley Wintney go down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Farnham Town in the Combined Counties League Premier Division on Saturday.

Player-manager Ben Dillon gave Hartley the lead in the first half and while the hosts had chances to increase their lead, they were unable to make the game safe.

They led going into the final 10 minutes, but Farnham were handed a lifeline when the referee awarded them a penalty for a foul that Hartley felt had taken place outside the area.

The penalty was scored and the visitors took control, threatening several times before they were awarded a second penalty, this time when a free-kick ricocheted against a Hartley arm.

This was also converted and Farnham claimed an unlikely victory that leaves Hartley 12th in the table. They are in action again tomorrow night, hosting fifth-placed Windsor.
