OVERTON United were made to pay for a poor first-half display as they went down to a 4-3 defeat away at Fleetlands in the Hampshire Premier League.

The hosts went ahead after just four minutes and while Overton then enjoyed a good spell, they were unable to take their chances and conceded twice more before the break to trail 3-0.

Matty Bennett scored two excellent goals in the early stages of the second half to get his side back into the game, lobbing the goalkeeper from distance for his first and then firing home after cutting in from the left.

Fleetlands made it 4-2, scrambling home the rebound after hitting the crossbar, and while Luke Miller’s fine free-kick reduced the deficit to a single goal, the visitors were unable to get on terms.

The result leaves Overton eighth in the table and they have a break from league action tomorrow night, when they host Wessex League outfit Andover New Street in the Russell Cotes Cup.
