BASINGSTOKE golfer Stuart Archibald is determined not to allow an eye infection to bring the best season of his career to a premature end.

The 30-year-old had to pull out of the latest Mena Tour event after developing keratitis, a condition that has left his right eye sensitive to light and is impairing his vision.

It’s far from an ideal situation and has come at a terrible time for the golfer, who is busy preparing for the climax to the EuroPro Tour and Mena Tour, as well as the second stage of European Tour Qualifying School.

“It could not have come at a worse time for me, but I just have to go out and do the best I can,” Archibald said. “It’s been the best season of my career and I have just got to find a way to play.”

The Worting golfer will travel to Egypt for the Visit Egypt Tour Championships, the climax to the EuroPro Tour, this weekend. Victory in next week’s event would secure him a top five place in the end-of-season standings and a move up to the Challenge Tour, the second tier of European golf, for next season.

After that, he travels to the United Arab Emirates for the Mena Golf Tour Championship, where invites to events on both the Asian Tour and European Tour are up for grabs.

From the Middle East, Archibald will fly straight to Las Colinas, in Spain, for the second stage of European Tour Qualifying School.

He said: “I am looking to win the next two events and then I will have got what I wanted out of the season.

“I’m not expecting to play well because of my eye, but it takes some of the pressure off and I’ll just do the best I can.”
