BASINGSTOKE Gymnastic Club’s Aerobic squad turned in some excellent performances at the annual British Championships at the Surrey Sports Park, in Guildford.

The competition was held over two days and 17 gymnasts from Basingstoke aged eight and upwards took part.

Emerald Cundy competed at national level for 12 to 14 years and produced a fantastic routine to take a silver medal.

Emma Harris and Robyn Marney competed at age nine national level and beautifully presented their routines to the judges, with Harris winning a silver medal.

Freya Baldwin, Shanice George and Elizabeth Marais all had to compete in the qualifying round on the first day of competition, aiming for a top-eight finish.

Marais finished with a score of 17.450 which put her 12th, George just missed out on the finals with a score of 17.600, coming ninth, while Baldwin finished in first place with a score of 18.150.

On finals day, Baldwin produced a routine that saw her score slightly down at 18.000 and had to settle for fourth place, which was still a lot better than expected.

Zanna Woods finished sixth in the senior category with a score of 18.350. She also competed in the trio category putting together an amazing routine with her team mates that saw them win a silver medal.

There were some amazing routines from all 17 Basingstoke gymnasts and, after the competition, three gymnasts are moving up to international level, while three others have got the qualifying scores for the Great Britain squad.
