BASINGSTOKE RFC have the biggest game of their London One South season so far on Saturday, when Twickenham are the visitors to Down Grange (kick-off 3pm).

’Stoke, like their Middlesex rivals, are currently suffering a woeful run of results, after a good start to the season.

So this is ideal opportunity for the home side to snap their recent losing streak.

Since the club were hit with a 15-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player under a fake name, ’Stoke have only won once - losing their next five.

Their latest defeat came at Hampshire rivals Havant as they went down 38-22 on Saturday.

However, they dominated most of the second half and will look to take that performance into the game against Twickenham.

Head coach Will Croker said: “We got off to a shocker at Havant, and we then tried to force the game which led to more errors.

“We had plenty of time to get back into the game, and in the second-half, we played a lot better.

He added: “In training, we worked on getting the defence moving back and making the most of the ball when we have it.”

Saturday’s visitors to Down Grange, Twickenham, are winless in their last six games losing five of them.

’Stoke will be keen to get a win under their belt as they have a very tough looking December, facing three sides currently in the top four of the London One South table.

The scrum will be strengthened this weekend, with the return of Oli John at tight head prop and Steve Osborne at loose head prop.

Callum Staff and Chris Guyatt are also back from injury as ‘Stoke look to buck their recent losing streak.

Croker said: “As I have said before, we are not a million miles away and I am very proud of the number of players we are getting to training.

“Everyone wants to get back to winning.

“A victory will put the confidence back into the team and then we can have a good crack at the top sides in the next few weeks.”
