FIVE goals from Dean Record helped Basingstoke Hockey Club’s men crush local rivals Yateley 10-1 in Hants/Surrey Division One.

Basingstoke dominated possession and territory from the start and were rewarded early on as Record, pictured left, tapped in at the far post.

Yateley equalised, but Record added to Basingstoke’s tally with four fine set-piece conversions.

Dan Bowden scored and then Ben Jubin added two more from close range.

Ben Shaughnessy converted a corner into the roof of the net, before Jed Mills found the bottom corner.

The men’s seconds notched up their first league points of the season, with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against visiting Salisbury.

Paul Handley’s bouncing penalty-corner strike found the backboard as Basingstoke took the lead, before Salisbury levelled late in the second half.

The fourths won 4-0 away to Fareham and opened the scoring following a classic drive from the top of the D from Adam Neighbour.

A second goal followed from Eliot Boyd and Will Newcombe scored from a penalty-corner.

In the second half, Neighbour scored his second with a stunning reverse-stick strike.

Basingstoke ladies dropped their first points of the season after a 2-2 draw at Andover.

Mel Trevaskis helped breaked the deadlock with a skilful run and pass to Fi Parker, who converted.

Parker scored again, after some great work in the midfield from Roxy O’Dea and Janine White.

The home side scored just before half-time and again after the break.

The visitors had a great chance to win the game, but fired a penalty-flick wide.

The seconds won 4-0 at home against Yateley.

Gilly Dunning made a piercing run into the D and slotted the ball wide of the Yateley goalkeeper for Bev Mackay to push home.

Early in the second half, Basingstoke added another when Laura Marks grabbed a goal from a penalty-corner rebound.

Link-up play from Dunning and Mackay in the centre led to a shot from Tanya Finch in the D, which was finished off by Catherine Woodliffe.

Another rebound from a short corner saw Laura Marks complete the 4-0 win.

The third team started their game strongly against Fleet and Ewshot, as Ellie Pearson slipped a short-corner ball for Sharon Holden and she swept home.

The second half saw Basingstoke under a lot of pressure. Fleet equalised and scored the winner thanks to a penalty-flick.
