DARTS players of Basingstoke gathered to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice at the annual Bert Kelly Men’s Pairs and Phyl Kelly Ladies Pairs held at the Railway Club.

The two competitions are named in honour of Bert and Phyl Kelly, who were great servants to darts in Basingstoke and Hampshire.

The Phyl Kelly Ladies Pairs winners were Glenda Menday and Ava Burniston from the Labour Club. They beat Jackie Kimber and Helen Davis from The Academy Club 2-1 in the final.

The final of the Bert Kelly Men’s Pairs was an all-Railway Club affair, which was won by Mark Petchey and Ricky Humber.

This made it a treble for Petchey, who had earlier taken the Tribute and Memorial Singles and Pairs with his partner Ricky Cull.

Petchey and Humber beat John Bartlett and Jason Waite 3-0 in the final, who just failed to find their earlier form. Winner Petchey dedicated his win to his dad Stan, who had very recently passed away.

However, the big winners on the day were St Michael’s Hospice as £202 was raised.

Organiser John Bartlett said: “On behalf of the charity, we would like to thank all those who attended and helped to make this year’s event a success again.

“Thanks also to the Railway Club, the committee, members and bar staff for their continued support."
