Everton midfielders James McCarthy and Darron Gibson could both join Kevin Mirallas on the sidelines this Saturday, having been rated as “50-50” for the game with Saints.

Belgian international winger Mirallas is definitely out of the match, after suffering an ankle injury in Monday’s 3-1 win against QPR.

Another midfielder, Leon Osman, is also missing with an ankle problem, while late calls will be made on Gibson (knee) and McCarthy (hamstring).

“Darron Gibson will be joining the group today, and we will assess him after that, and James McCarthy is making good progress and both will be assessed before the Southampton game,” said Everton manager Roberto Martinez.

“It is a 50-50 situation for both for Saturday.”
