BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club men’s first team bounced back to winning ways in fine style as they beat visiting Southampton 6-1.
The home side raced into a 4-0 lead before half-time, as Andy Preston scored from Basingstoke’s first short corner.
Jed Mills added a second with a reverse stick shot, before Dave Stones netted after Mills unselfishly played him in.
Soon after, Dean Record ran into the D and scored with a low reverse-stick shot.
After the break, the home side added two quick goals from Record and Mills, before Southampton scored a lone consolation.
The men’s fourths beat Havant 5-1, even though the visitors opened the scoring from a penalty corner.
The home side levelled from Eliot Boyd and then Adam Neighbour scored either side of the break to make it 3-1.
Boyd added a fourth goal from a penalty corner and then the same player completed his hat-trick.
The fifths recorded their first home win of the season as they beat Yateley V 3-0.
Chris Jenkins and Kyle McFee both went close for Basingstoke before Ross Cavalier scored twice to make it 2-0 at the break.
Man-of-the-match Ryan Over sealed the victory with a smartly- taken goal.
In the ladies’ section, the first team kept their promotion hopes alive with a 5-0 victory over Barnes.
Catriona Bausor was first to score after a slick short corner routine, closely followed by Lisa Scarborough.
Basingstoke added three goals after the break thanks to an individual run from Fi Parker, Roxy O’Dea and a second for Scarborough.
The second team won 4-1 away against Aldershot and Farnham.
Gilly Dunning started and finished the first goal of the game and then Sarah Mainprise added a second.
Gemma Carswell made a break into the D and slipped the ball under the goalkeeper to make it 3-0 and then Ruth Crawford added a fourth, before the home side completed the scoring.
The thirds completed a club double over Aldershot and Fareham with a 5-0 win.
