AN AMATEUR footballer from Basingstoke was put through her paces by Chelsea Ladies FC at their state-of-the-art training ground.
Pia Jenkins Henham was part of the Kingston University Ladies FC (KULFC) squad that won a nationwide search for an amateur ladies team to join the Women’s Super League side for training as a celebration of International Women’s Day.
The 18-year-old, who studies journalism, took to the pitch at the Blues’ Surrey base in Cobham with her teammates and was given an insight into what it takes to become a top-level player. The session was overseen by Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes and the players, including former England international Gemma Davison.
Jenkins Henham said: “It was absolutely fantastic and I had such a great time meeting the players and getting to learn a bit about professional football from them.
“They play at the highest level but were so down to earth and happy to chat and have a kick-around with us. It was an amazing experience and one I won’t forget soon.”
To win the competition, organised by Chelsea sponsor Gazprom, KULFC impressed the judges with their application, explaining their dedication to their team and their desire to show off their skills in front of the professionals.
