THE Abacus Employment Service-sponsored Phoenix Inferno welcomed Oakley FC under-sevens to Down Grange.

They played four games and Leo Scowen deserves a special mention as he kept a couple of clean sheets.

The midfield of Stanley Garret, George Sharp and Thomas Woodward proved to be lethal, as were Niall Waite and Georgie Gambling.

Next to face Oakley were the under-eight teams of the Flames and Blaze.

The Blaze had a tough contest, with stand-out players being Matthew Bull, Max Shepherd and William Coxon.

On the other pitch, Flames goalkeeper Carter Wright kept a clean sheet and Jack Jupp enjoyed one of his finest performances of the season.

The following week, the Phoenix Flames and Blaze teams travelled to MFC Popley.

Here they faced their A and B teams, with the Phoenix mixing up their squads for the four games.

Managers Derek Bull and Daren Bavister were pleased to see how different players worked together.

Matthew Dick shone in both games with a terrific game awareness, while Charlie Allen, Jack Ross and Matthew Bull were a force to be reckoned with and made a fearsome forward line.

Man-of-the-match Joel Nicholls saved a penalty as he dived to his left and pushed the ball around the post.

The following week, the Inferno faced Tadley FC and the first game was a tale of two goalkeepers, with the Tadley stopper doing well in the first half.

The second half saw Sadie Martindale keep a clean sheet.

The second match was a physical challenge, with the Inferno’s man-of-the-match being George Sharp.
