BASINGSTOKE table tennis ace Amy Blagbrough helped Hampshire under-18s to the County Championship Division One title and promotion to the Premier Division.

The county came into the final round of games at Cippenham Table Tennis Club in Slough leading the way after previous victories over Dorset 9-1, Devon 10-0 and Cornwall 9-1 in the first round of matches back in November.

Their first opponents in their second round of games was a Kent side who were second in the table.

Hampshire got off to a bad start, losing their first two matches, but Blagbrough stopped the rot as she easily won her match 3-0.

The 15-year-old then won a second match as Hampshire recovered to win 6-4 and strengthen their position at the top of the table.

Their next two matches proved to be very easy as they beat both Sussex and Essex 9-1 to secure the title.Over the two weekends of the competition Blagborough won 11 out of her 12 games.

This title meant that the Aldworth School pupil secured a treble of league titles in the space of a month.

This was after she represented Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club in the Junior British League.

Playing alongside two Swedish girls the club had flown over to play with Blagborough, she won the Division One title, beating strong teams from Ireland and Wales.

In the same month she also represented Fusion Table Tennis Club in the Women’s British League and again her team won the Division One title.
