BASINGSTOKE Royals remain favourites to win the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division despite being denied a league win for the first time since September.

They looked on course for another three points as goals from James McIntosh and Scott Harvey had them two up after just 20 minutes of their trip to Hook.

James Westwood fired inches over for the hosts, before Dan Mason pulled a goal back on the half-hour, converting Dave White’s cross.

The comeback was completed four minutes later, when another White cross fell to Pete Silvester. His effort was blocked, but Aaron King was on hand to fire home the rebound from eight yards.

Royals recovered to regain the lead before half-time, Matt Dean scoring from a Harvey pass, and they pressed for a fourth goal after the break, Hook goalkeeper Greg Archer making one particularly good save.

However, it was Hook who scored the only goal of the second half to earn a 3-3 draw, King converting from the spot.

The first cup final of the season takes place at Winklebury on Saturday (6.30pm), when Basingstoke Athletic will face Herriard Sports with the Basingstoke B Cup at stake.

Rising Sun DC reached the final of the Peter Raynbird Cup with a 2-1 win over Tadley Calleva A at Barlow’s Park.

A below-strength Tadley team felt they should have been awarded an early penalty when Steve Aldridge went down in the area, but it was Rising Sun who took the lead with 15 minutes on the clock, Joe Harris firing home from the edge of the area.

There was no further scoring until the 75th minute, when Michael Thomas doubled the lead direct from a free-kick. Kye Theodore produced a good turn and shot to pull one back for the hosts, but they were unable to get on terms.

The second semi-final takes place this weekend, with Hook hosting Sherborne St John for the right to take on Rising Sun.

Overton United A were crowned champions of Division One without having to play their final game.

The leaders were at home to North Warnborough, but the visitors were unable to raise a side, so Overton were awarded the three points – and the title.

TwentyTen are favourites to finish second after scoring three goals in the final 11 minutes to record a 4-3 win over DJS Telecoms.

Carlos Gonzalez had DJS ahead after just 15 minutes, but Jordon Wainwright levelled for TwentyTen soon after.

Second-half goals from Craig Roshier and Gonzalez made it 3-1 to DJS, and they looked on course for the win until the 79th minute, when Pete Lomax scored an own goal to reduce the deficit.

The visitors levelled with two minutes to play, Joe Hill heading home a corner, and the comeback was complete when Jake Tanner took advantage of a poor back-pass in injury-time.

Basingstoke Labour Club moved four points clear at the top of Division Two with a 2-1 win over title rivals Basingstoke Athletic.

Labour Club took the lead after 20 minutes, Cameron George rounding the goalkeeper to score, but Athletic drew level before half-time, Ryan Evans heading home after Dave Trevellion’s shot had been saved.

The visitors scored the winning goal early in the second half, Matt Kelly converting a George pass, and they defended well to see the game out, inflicting just a second league defeat of the season on Athletic.

They remain favourites to win the league as they have three games in hand on Labour Club, but Bounty United also remain in the hunt after beating Winklebury Wizards 1-0.

It took a fine save from Bounty goalkeeper Richard Vinn to stop Ryan Watts putting the Wizards ahead in the first half, while Robson Pereira saw his shot cleared off the line.

Bounty improved after the break, but Matt Love missed a clear chance and it took them until the 85th minute to net the winner, Lee Barton lobbing Wizards goalkeeper Gavin Alexander from Mitchell Stokes’ excellent pass.

A much-changed Herriard Sports side went down 3-0 away at Overton United B. There were no goals before the break but second-half strikes from Joe Holder, Michael Burry and Liam Randall won the game for Overton.

Tom Hartley hit a hat-trick as Basingstoke United won 4-1 away at Sherborne St John Reserves. Goals from Hartley and Joe Cook had the visitors two up at the break and while Ibrahim Waheed pulled one back for Sherborne, Hartley scored two more to make the game safe.

AFC Aldermaston A could not raise a side for their game against Preston Candover.
