THE Basingstoke Bison Junior Ice Hockey Club held their annual awards evening at the Basingstoke Rugby Club last Friday.

Players from all five of the junior teams were in attendance from the youngest age group the under-10 Bison to the oldest under-18 Bison.

Basingstoke Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard handed out some of the awards as did Herd senior players from last season Stuart Mogg and Ryan Watt.

Both Mogg and Watt are proof that the junior programme works in Basingstoke as they started their careers playing for the under-10 Bison and now both play for the Herd in the English Premier League and so inspiring another generation of players.

So there is a good chance that this year's award winners will be the future stars of the Bison and there was a lot of talent on show during the evening.

The Tempest Allum Trophy for outstanding contribution to the club went to under-18 player Josh Richards, who does a lot of coaching as well as playing.

Defenceman Ollie Bower took the most awards home winning three for the under-14 Bison and one for the under-16 Bison.

Bower hat-trick of awards in the younger age group saw him receive the Players' Player, Coach's Player and Best Defenceman trophy and then completed the double winning the Best Defenceman award for the under-16s as well.

The rest of the under-14 awards saw Adam Castles pick up the Most Improved Player trophy, Emily Harris won the Best Forward award, William Birch the Top Points and their were two Most Valued Players in netminders Sam Childs and Rory Edwards.

Sam Compton and Connor Hutchison enjoyed a double success in the under-16s awards.

Compton picked up both the Players' Player and Coach's Player awards and Hutchison was the team's Best Forward and top points scorer.

The team's most Improved Player was Cameron Wilkins and their Most Valued Player was netminder Lauren Ralf.
