BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants high jumpers Emma Buckett and Ryan Bonifas were in top form at the England Under-23 and Under-20 Championships.

Buckett produced a season’s best jump of 1.70m to claim a share of second place in the under-23 women’s event, while a leap of 1.99m earned Bonifas fourth place in the men’s event.

Young sprinter Mair Edwards reached the final of the under-20 women’s 200m, despite only being an under-17.

She produced a personal best in her heat, clocking 24.27sec to finish third and make the final, where she finished eighth in 24.80sec.

Teenage sprinting brothers Myles and Owen Richardson also travelled to Lee Valley for the championships, with both competing in the under-20 400m.

They were drawn in the same heat and it was younger brother Owen who came out on top, finishing third in 49.20sec.

Myles finished fifth in 50.20sec but reached the semi-finals as a fastest loser.

Unfortunately, neither was able to reach the final.

Myles finished seventh in his semi, clocking 50.09sec, while Owen, who is recovering from injury, just missed out, finishing third in a season’s best time of 49.12sec.

The final was won in 48.56sec, significantly slower than Owen’s personal-best time of 48.32sec.
