OVERTON Cricket Club captain Tony Glass scored the winning runs off the final ball of the game to give his side a narrow victory over Overton Rugby Club in the 12th annual Cricby Cup match.

The rugby club batted first at Overton Recreation Centre and got off to a good start, with father and son partnership Ian and Alex Harrison hitting early boundaries.

The cricket club hit back in the middle part of the innings, but Elliott Kerr and Matt Sims batted well to get the rugby club to 161 at the end of their 20 overs.

Alex Britten, Matt Bown and Aaron Brown all batted well for the cricket club, but they needed eight off the last over to avoid just their second defeat in the history of the match.

Experienced bowler Jonty Spall had the ball in his hand, but a three quick singles and a couple of twos meant that the scores were level with one ball remaining.

Glass took matters into his own hand, clubbing the final ball over long on for the match-winning boundary.

The cricket was followed by a best-of-five tug-of-war competition, with the rugby club recovering from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
