CHINEHAM’S Jamie Fry was delighted with a second-place finish at the British Championship.

Fry had travelled to the Lee Valley Athletic Centre at the start of the month for the event hoping for a top-10 finish, but he was on top form during the second day of the competition and exceeded all expectations by claiming second spot on the podium.

CrossFit is an event that combines numerous disciplines, including elements of athletics and weightlifting, over the course of a two-day programme.

The 20-year-old said: “It was just amazing how the two days of competition went.

“It started well with a tenth in the 5km race and by the end of the first day I was up in the top 10, out of 100 competitors.”

“The field then started to be cut down, but with each event I moved up and I think it helped me to be competing against the top people there.”

Fry’s best result came in the second event of day two, the 400 metres.

He finished fourth in a time of 55.9sec and then went on to collect a sixth-place finish in the rowing event.

Two more top-10 finishes saw complete the competition in second place.

Fray added: “I was really pleased with my result in the 400m as the three that beat me were all wearing running spikes.

“If someone had told me before the event started that I would finish second behind David Shorunke, I would very much have taken that, as he is a very good athlete.

“I think I have learned that competing over two days, you need to keep something in the tank and not just blow it all in one event.

“For me, this year has been about gaining experience from competing, and I have been really pleased by the way I have performed.”

Fry will compete in a pairs event and a team event before taking a break to prepare for next season.

Next year, he is hoping to build on what he achieved in 2015.

Not only did he finish second at the British Championships, but he also managed a top-30 finish at the Crossfit Games Regional finals in Copenhagen.

Fry concluded by saying: “I would like to thank CrossFit Blockhouse and the owners Spencer and Toni Whiteley for sponsoring me.

“Also, Icon Nutrition for their supplement support and Nobull for the shoes I wear in competition.”
