BASINGSTOKE Town manager Jason Bristow insists that his objectives for the season have not changed despite his side's slow start to the campaign.

The Dragons have failed to win any of their opening five fixtures and sit 19th in the National League South table, 12 points behind early leaders Bath City.

Having reached the play-offs last season, Town went into this campaign hoping to challenge near the top of the table once again.

That currently seems a long way off, but Bristow remains confident that his side can turn things around.

"We don't have as many points as we would have hoped to have, but our aims and objectives have not changed," the Town boss said. "We just need to stay positive, because two or three wins in a row would take us up the table to near where we want to be.

"We are five games without a win, but we are also unbeaten in three. I'm not worried, but frustration is a good word to describe how I am feeling at the moment.

"It's frustrating because we feel we should have more points than we have got. Our results are not reflecting the way we are playing, but it's important that we get that first win to relieve a bit of pressure on the players."

Town face two games in three days over the bank holiday weekend, travelling to Hayes and Yeading United on Saturday (3pm) before hosting Hampshire rivals Gosport Borough on Monday (3pm).

Hayes are one place above Town, having won just once so far this season, but it has been a good start to the campaign for Gosport, who are unbeaten so far and sit fourth in the table.

Bristow said: "Hayes have had a mixed start, with some good and bad results, so they will be looking for three points as well.

"It should be a good game for us, on a good surface, and hopefully we can pick up three points.

"We know that Gosport will be a good side. They have got goals in them, but they are very organised and difficult to break down."

Bristow is hopeful that Shaun McAuley will recover from a knee problem before Saturday, but fellow midfielder Jamie Brown looks set to miss out due to a groin injury.
