ODIHAM hockey star Alex Danson scored the opening goal as England beat Spain 2-1, to book their place in the final of the Eurohockey Championships.

They will now meet the Netherlands on Sunday (4pm) to decide the winners of a tournament, in which both sides are unbeaten.

Danson scored in the first quarter against the Spanish side and then limped off before half-time after being hit on the foot by the ball.

She returned after the break, but it was Spain who levelled the game just before the end of the third quarter from Georgina Oliva.

The home side won the game at the Olympic Park as Lily Owsley scored the winner eight minutes from time.

In England’s last group game on Wednesday, Danson scored a hat-trick as they won 4-1.
