STEVEN Davis can continue a spectacular week by leading Northern Ireland to the European Championship finals for the first time tomorrow.

The Northern Ireland captain scored his first Saints goal in more than 60 games as Ronald Koeman’s side recorded a famous 3-1 win at Chelsea.

Now the 30-year-old can cap an already impressive seven days by leading his country to qualification for the finals of Euro 2016, which take place in France next summer.

All the Northern Irish have to do is get two points from their two remaining Group F games and they will have secured an historical place at next summer’s tournament.

“(They are) two massive games for us,” said Davis. “I’m really looking forward to being back with the squad in October and get ourselves over the line.”

Michael O’Neill’s side will have booked their place if they are triumphant tomorrow night at Windsor Park against bottom-side Greece.

“It would be huge, it would be an unbelievable achievement,” said Davis. “For a nation of our size to qualify for a major tournament the odds are always stacked against us.

“But we’ve had a tremendous start, we put ourselves in a great position and, as I say, hopefully we can do the job and get ourselves over the line.”

Greece, the Euro 2004 champions, have yet to win a game and have lost twice to minnows the Faroe Islands in a dreadful qualifying campaign.

An embarrassing 1-0 defeat to the Faroe Islands in Athens back in November led to the sacking of now Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri.

Kyle Lafferty and Jamie Ward fired Northern Ireland to a third straight victory in Greece almost a year ago and, with two games now remaining, Davis and countrymen have been defeated just once –by second-placed Romania.

The Saints man knew that his country had a squad capable of progressing from the group.

“If you see where we finished in the last World Cup qualifying campaign, we’ve always been capable of getting big results against some of the bigger nations,” he said.

“To try and find that consistency has always been the problem, but this campaign things seem to have clicked.

“It’s a great place to be and everyone’s embracing it.”

Shane Long is also in Euro 2016 qualifying action tomorrow, as the Republic of Ireland look to keep their automatic hopes alive when they host Germany.

Jose Fonte and Cedric Soares are with Portugal for their home game against Denmark tomorrow evening, with a point good enough to ensure they qualify, while a win will see them ensure top spot in Group I.

Dusan Tadic should feature for Serbia, who have already been eliminated from contention, as they visit Albania, while Maya Yoshida is in World Cup 2018 qualifying action, as Japan take on Syria, in Oman.

Meanwhile, today sees Harrison Reed and Sam Gallagher involved in the England Under-20 squad that are taking on their Dutch counterparts in the first match of the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup, in Germany.

Victor Wanyama's Kenya will take on Mauritius in this afternoon's first leg of their World Cup qualifier.
