IF YOU have been inspired by the tennis at Roland Garros over the past week, then maybe it is time to pick up a racket and take up the sport.

If you are looking for somewhere to play the game, then look no further than the village of Old Basing.

Members of the Old Basing Lawn Tennis Club have had a very busy winter making sure that by the time Wimbledon arrives next month, everything at the club will look as good as new.

The biggest job saw the Old Basing club house have a complete makeover.

As well as the clubhouse, there are four all weather tennis courts for players to show off their skills.

This is all at the Old Basing Recreation Ground which is in a beautiful village setting.

Club records show the tennis club has been in existence since the 1930s and until the 1990s there were grass courts, which now have been replaced by hard courts.

Old Basing are looking for new members to join this very friendly club.

Their club nights are on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6pm for social play.

They also run American tournaments, a summer tournament and have teams in the Basingstoke and District Tennis League in the men’s, ladies and mixed divisions.

The club also holds an annual quiz night in November which is always popular, as is the skittles night in the spring.

If you would like to join either come along to a club night and have a chat with one of the members or just come and have a game.

Alternatively they are holding a come and have a go session at their home at the Recreation Ground on Old Basing Carnival Day, which this year is Saturday June 18.
